Caveat Lector (Let
the reader beware)
Evaluating Web
Sites
CONTENT
Accuracy:
Are information sources listed? Can they be
verified?
Biases: If
there are biases, are they acknowledged or are they
masked?
Breadth: Does
the site cover many aspects of the subject?
Depth: How
much pertinent detail is there?
Currency: When
was the information gathered? When was it posted? Has the
information been revised?
Quality of
writing: Is it clear and cogent?
Links to other
sites: Is the site a dead end or is it
connective?
AUTHORSHIP
Does the
author list any credentials?
Has the author
published works in a traditional format?
Is there an
affiliation with an organization?
Is there an
e-mail address for questions?
SINGULARITY
Does the
site have unique information?
If it is a
version of something available elsewhere, is something
left out or something added?
PURPOSE
Was the
site created to inform/teach, to persuade, to sell, or
entertain?
For whom, in
terms of age and expertise, is it intended?
DESIGN
Visual:
Is it interesting? ...distracting?
Conceptual: Is
it logical? ...easy to navigate?
