We have picked these sites for their variety, creativity, accessibility, and educational value. This "virtual library" has great stuff for everyone. Explore its possibilities just as you would your school library's reference room and periodical collection. There are Pathfinders with both print and Internet resources to start you off on a research adventure. There are separate Youth and Teen areas where you can find relevant answers to personal questions on such topics as health, relationships, college search, career exploration, homework, etc. There are exhibitions such as Harlem: 1900-1940 which incorporates links to information on the Harlem Renaissance. There is a superb collection of world-wide as well as U.S. newspapers. There are also the excellent Literary Criticism Collection and the Literary Menagerie pages. This Web presence for our "de facto" national library is bursting with goodies - the amazing and constantly expanding digital collection American Memory ("America's story in words, sounds, & pictures"), an excellent guide to exploring the Internet that leads and trains you at the same time, access to all sorts of government resources, plus the online catalog for the largest collection of books in the world! Most useful are the Internet Resources (particularly Search Tools and the Health Web), Indexes & Databases (if your school or public library provides access to SearchBank and the Boston Globe archives) and Library Catalogs (to search your local library for personal borrowing or for interlibrary loan requests). Our colleague at the Winsor School is responsible for compiling this extensive, annotated online "vertical file" of click-to-open Internet Resources. The too-numerous-to-count topics range from Abortion to Mathematicians, from Newspapers to Zip Codes. This is a great starting place for that current events or single period assignment!
